Patient X’s Journey | 40kgs Lost – A Multidimensional Approach

Embarking on a weight loss journey can be both challenging and rewarding. While many seek quick fixes, sustainable success often requires a comprehensive, personalised approach. Consider the transformative journey of Patient X, who, over five months, lost 40 kgs, discontinued his blood pressure medication, and reduced his visceral fat – all through a holistic, data-driven programme.

The Power of a Multidimensional Approach

Our programme integrates several key components to ensure sustainable and effective weight loss:

  • Behavioural Psychology: Understanding and modifying eating habits and behaviours are crucial. By addressing the psychological aspects of eating, clients can develop healthier relationships with food.
  • Science-Based Nutrition: We provide personalised nutrition plans grounded in scientific research, ensuring clients receive balanced and appropriate dietary guidance.
  • Measurable Data: Regular tracking of weight, body composition, and other health metrics allows for precise monitoring of progress and enables data-driven adjustments to the program.
  • Group and Individual Support: Combining the motivation of group settings with personalized one-on-one support fosters a sense of community and accountability, enhancing adherence to the program.
  • Medically Assisted Weight Loss: When appropriate, we incorporate medically supervised interventions to support weight loss, ensuring safety and efficacy.

Patient X’s Transformative Journey

At the start of the program on January 21, 2021, Patient X weighed 145.9 kg and had a visceral fat level of 43.5, placing him in Class III obesity.

His blood pressure was 150/90 mm Hg, despite being on full dosage of blood pressure medication.

Over the next five months, through our structured program, he lost 40 kgs, bringing his weight down to 105 kg by May 21, 2021. His visceral fat reduced to 24, and he successfully discontinued his blood pressure medication.

Understanding Visceral Fat vs. Body Fat

The human body stores fat in various forms, primarily categorised as visceral fat and subcutaneous fat:

  • Visceral Fat: This type of fat is stored deep within the abdominal cavity, surrounding vital organs such as the liver, pancreas, and intestines. Excessive visceral fat is linked to increased risks of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers.
  • Subcutaneous Fat: Located just beneath the skin, subcutaneous fat is the fat you can pinch. While it can affect appearance, it is generally less harmful than visceral fat.

The Impact on Blood Pressure

As Patient X progressed and lost weight, his blood pressure decreased, this allowed him to reduce his blood pressure medication, until he was off it completely.  It’s essential to recognise that intentional weight loss can significantly impact blood pressure levels for the better. Studies have shown that even modest weight reductions can lead to meaningful decreases in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, reducing the need for antihypertensive medications.
